Chapter Seven: Transcript
Ah, the Daldy Street Park! A glorious strip of nature and play amongst the urban jungle. Now is a great time to have a wee break or have a whoosh down the slide - but what about Tia’s precious hat? We’re almost there - but no yellow hat to be seen! But if you look and listen closely you’ll hear a strange little hum - buzzzzzzzz - it’s a bee! But not just any bee, it’s one of 28 species of ngaro huruhuru - our native Aotearoa bees. “Oh kia ora bros, how’s it hanging?” says the little creature.
“Kia ora Zee,” chirps Tia “Actually I’ve-” The little bee cuts her off!
“Yeah I’ve just been around, hanging at the daldy street community garden, y’know, having some sweet nectar,” Zee brags, “You wouldn’t understand - what do you eat again? Chips?”
“Well actually I have a very diverse diet-” Tia starts, only to be interrupted - again!
“You seen any flowers around?” asks Zee the Bee “I’d kill for a drop of pōhutukawa -maybe some flax? Aw I wish there was some mānuka around here” Tia pauses, suddenly deep in thought. There is a clever twinkle in her eyes. She has a great idea!
“Aw well I have seen a flower around… but it’s probably too rare and delicious for you…” she says. Zee perks up -
“That’s perfect!” He says, “What kind of flower is it?”
“Have you ever heard of the magic flower?” asks Tia. “It’s really exclusive. One of a kind.” she says “Bright yellow. Round shape. The yummiest nectar. I guess you haven’t heard of it” Tia shrugs.
“Oh I’ve heard of it.” says Zee “Of course I’ve heard of it!”
“Bet you couldn’t find it,” teases Tia “Bet you couldn’t catch the wind”
“Of course I can!” says Zee “I am the BEST at finding flowers. I’ll race you!” And he zooms off into the distance. Quick! After him!
